# THE TIP JAR QUEEN — Beat Sheet (v1)

*52 beats. One line each. ⚠ = scheduled truth, not yet lived — write it as controllable, let reality overdeliver. Bracketed items are open questions from the treatment ledger.*

## ACT I — THE ALTITUDES (beats 1–16)

1. **COLD OPEN:** Dawn, Lincoln Tunnel mouth — six lanes of arriving headlights; a woman writes furiously beside a glass tip jar nobody slows for. TITLE.
2. **JFK, March 2024:** Chris arrives from five locked-down years abroad (Australia/Amsterdam/Poland). VO: came back to make it — can't remember what "it" is.
3. **Taxi VO — the refusal:** LA was the easy room where his story enters first; he chose the city that makes him introduce himself. The BPO history plants the pattern: finding brilliance where the world isn't looking.
4. **Subpenthouse:** the $5MM view contains both worlds — towers ignite, and two blocks west, the tent line glows. He sees it; doesn't linger. Yet.
5. **The altitudes montage:** University Club halls, Aman terraces, rolodex lunches — everyone glad to see him, nobody can answer his question. Rooms like that only answer questions about *more*.
6. **First flicker of the internal war:** a small private ritual — the conscious morning effort to believe his own worth. Planted small; paid off in Act II.
7. **Aman Club night:** Chris begs for an exorcism — algorithms out of his phone. Alain: *"You MUST meet my son — so smart, and special brains, the both of you."* The audience doesn't know the mirror yet.
8. **The prophecy:** Daniel, fresh from Oxford: *AI doesn't care what you think of it. It will succeed. Succeed with it, or lose a battle you shouldn't want to win.* Chris pockets the phone like it appreciated.
9. **The crime spree:** the thefts escalate over several months — an electric scooter, then another, then an e-bike, then another — tougher locks each time, a GPS tag found in a dumpster, cops folding the report like a street flyer.
10. **The questions:** how organized is it? Where do four stolen rides go? Why do police watch and allow — a cut, or a window with eyes in it? *(Questions asked, never answered — by design.)*
11. **The decision:** he goes in. Documentary as pretext; grudge as fuel. "My accountant would have called it a grudge with a camera."
12. **First contact:** the encampment at night; the lighter set on the fire-drum rim like an ante. Cort — "that's for the street; government says Cortez." Two names, and you don't get the second one free. *(Real chain names to replace placeholders.)*
13. **The embed montage:** Cort→Reggie→Saint→Momma T→everybody. Cables and lighters bought by the hundred on Temu *so they can get lost*. All-nighters at the fire.
14. **"You've done this before."** Someone clocks how he sits, what he brings, what he doesn't ask. He doesn't answer. The film moves on.
15. **The useful ambiguity:** "You a cop?" — deflected with a joke, never resolved. It buys better behavior, richer stories, a year without losing a phone.
16. **ACT BREAK — the audience:** Cort: *"You want to know how it works, you need to see the Queen."* Back to the opening shot — now Chris walks into it. Coffee toll. *"Still working on who you are."*

## ACT II — THE MACHINE AND THE NOTEBOOKS (beats 17–38)

17. **The court of the Queen:** she knows everyone — the encampment's social graph runs through her. Her nod is his visa; doors that were ajar swing open.
18. **Who she is:** the Deadhead decade — ten years on the road, bracelets and parking lots — the education that made Hudson Yards survivable. Fiercely, unshakably certain of who she is.
19. **The notebooks:** hundreds of unexpressed songs, guarded like identity papers. She does not sing. She has never performed a note. The jar was never for a show.
20. **"Show me."** Chris flippantly says AI could turn her songs into music. She calls it: *show me.* He realizes he has no idea how. The prophecy sends its invoice.
21. **The mastery montage:** day and night into the tools — not for a product, for a person. The technology he begged to have removed becomes an instrument.
22. **The asymmetry stated:** she has nothing and knows exactly who she is; he has everything and fights for that knowledge every morning. Neither says it. The film shows it.
23. **The first track built:** her handwriting on one side of the screen, a designed voice on the other. Her words, carried.
24. **MIDPOINT — THE FIRST LISTEN:** Trudi hears her own song. Years of silence get off her chest in three minutes. *(If versions of this moment are still to come in life — a camera must be present. It happens once.)*
25. **Trust transfer:** she hands him another notebook. No ceremony. The most valuable option deal in New York.
26. **The equalizer:** Chris's worldview crystallizes — a once-in-a-millennium anomaly where the richest and poorest can know the same things. Stop playing with it; start leveraging it.
27. **Mission Labs founded:** teaching prompting and image generation at the camp — one task at a time, full screen, then next. Community, purpose, respite.
28. **The students' montage:** small wins compound; the camp's read on Chris shifts from "maybe cop" to "definitely ours."
29. **THE CROWN PASSES:** Trudi mentions a name — and is surprised Chris doesn't know them. The connector out-connected. The street now says *he* knows the most people, by both names. She just looks at him differently.
30. **The bikes, reprise:** a bike with his name on it isn't stealable anymore — the community would steal it back from the thief. *It's coming back, 100%.* The theft economy didn't change; his place in it did.
31. **⚠ The wins ladder:** distribution and publishing registered in her name; the Hollywood promotion machine — AdWords, friends, NYC press — aimed at an artist it was never built for.
32. **⚠ The press bite:** one honest New York profile: the woman who panhandled the tunnel releases the songs from her notebooks.
33. **THE WEIGHT:** Chris's story surfaces — at the fire, where confessions are currency: special ed until senior year, the ADHD nobody named, childhood poverty, brief homelessness. *I'm not a voyeur. I'm from this.*
34. **The mirror lands:** at sixteen, Daniel's special brain went to Oxford; at sixteen, Chris's went to prison — charged as an adult, wrongfully, two years taken. The Aman scene from Act I replays in the audience's head with its true weight.
35. **⚠ Justice seeded:** thirty-three years later, a filing is being prepared. Constructive denial of defense. Deliberately unresolved. *Justice waits patiently.*
36. **THE LINEAGE:** assembling Trudi's housing and identity papers, Chris finds it — father and grandfather Italian citizens. Under jure sanguinis, she already *is* Italian. She just needs the world to recognize it.
37. **Telling her.** [Her real reaction — open question; the scene writes itself when it happens or when she tells it.]
38. **ACT BREAK — Rome calls:** a track reaches an Italian production; licensed; Chris invited to Rome for a masked-star film — songs, score, a designed voice. He won't go without her: *none of this happens without "show me."*

## ACT III — RECOGNITION (beats 39–52)

39. **The send-off:** the court sees them off. [Does the jar travel? Decide — it's the film's object; it should be in the last frame either way.]
40. **Rome, two searches:** his set, her case. The vertical city swapped for the eternal one.
41. **⚠ The allies:** a retired judge takes up her cause; a sponsor is found. The bureaucratic labyrinth played as gentle comedy — Italy resisting the way Italy does.
42. **The renaissance montage:** Chris thriving on an international set with the machine he once begged a teenager to remove from his phone.
43. **Her superpower is portable:** the woman who knew everyone knows no one in Rome — for about a week. Then the espresso bar knows her, the portiere knows her, the clerk knows her. Queens travel.
44. **⚠ The setback:** a document missing, a hearing delayed — the labyrinth bites. Her old certainty meets its test; his old war ("am I worth this room?") meets its final round. They hold each other up. Mutual, to the end.
45. **⚠ The village:** the grandfather's ancestral town in Southern Italy. Stone streets her blood has walked before.
46. **⚠ Family found:** recognition scene — relatives hearing the grandfather's cadence inside her lyrics. Closure for a lifetime of displacement.
47. **⚠ The hearing:** citizenship. The state of Italy recognizes what her blood always was.
48. **⚠ THE CLIMAX — HERS:** her words, in her voice, heard where it matters — the song inside the finished film, or played aloud to family in the village square. The Tip Jar Queen finally has an act.
49. **The jar, resolved:** the tips were never for a performance. They were advances. [The jar's final image — piazza, windowsill, wherever it landed in beat 39.]
50. **⚠ The saga continues:** back in America, a filing lands on a clerk's desk in Oakland County. Unresolved on screen. Title card energy — the next film announces itself.
51. **CLOSING VO:** *...and just like that, I figured out what "making it" means. It isn't the view. It's who can hear you.*
52. **END CREDITS — the proof:** Trudi's real archive — her footage, the real photos, the real tracks — over the credits. *Cinematography/archival: Trudi Reppi.* The film demonstrates its own thesis on the way out.

## STRUCTURAL NOTES

- **Midpoint (24) is the engine swap:** Act II-A is Chris learning the machine; II-B is the machine working on the world. The first listen is the hinge — everything before it is silence, everything after is voice.
- **The conviction (33–35) sits late in Act II deliberately** — after the audience loves him, before Rome. Earliest it works: after the crown passes (29). It must not open the act (too heavy before earned trust) or land in Act III (would compete with her climax).
- **Beat 48 is the only non-negotiable:** the climax belongs to Trudi. Anything that makes Rome about Chris's triumph gets cut or moved before 45.
- **⚠ beats (31–32, 35, 41, 44–50):** scheduled, not lived. Each is written as controllable (filing a case, hiring counsel, licensing a track) — no beat depends on virality or luck.
- **Two bookends lock the film:** the tunnel shot (1 = 16's payoff) and the VO signature ("...and just like that" — beats 2 and 51).
